Client Spotlight: Standard Drywall Implements Pre-Work Stretches

Tom Jolliff from ICW Group sent over a video of Rancho Mesa client, Standard Drywall Inc., carrying out their routine morning stretches before starting the work day. Stretching helps to prevent employees from becoming injured, and Rancho Mesa is proud to see their clients implementing a team, health, and safety culture.
Rancho Mesa's Drew Garcia enlisted personal trainer, Collin Dawson from Bodies By Collin, to develop a stretch program specifically designed for the landscape and construction industries. This program is known as the RM365 Advantage Mobility & Stretch Program™.

RM365 Advantage Mobility & Stretch Program™
Rancho Mesa's Drew Garcia enlisted personal trainer, Collin Dawson from Bodies By Collin, to develop a stretch program specifically designed for the landscape and construction industries. Century Painting Corporation acquired the innovative Safety Training Unit, also known simply as the Safety Van, in May 2018 and the benefits have been endless. The Safety Van is equipped with safety training topics, tools, and protective equipment. Safety meetings were previously held at the Century Painting office, but now Eddie Lopez, Safety Coordinator of Century Painting Corp. travels to the jobsites and trains the employees on the spot; saving time and reducing hassle for the workers. The Safety Van has job specific trainings loaded onto the TV mounted to the back of the van, making it convenient for Eddie to open the van, set up chairs, and give safety presentations to the workers at the jobsite.

On March 12, 2019, Kevin Howard from Rancho Mesa Insurance presented Eddie with his certificate of completion and stickers to display his accomplishments on a hard hat and company vehicle.
“I mainly decide to do [the RM 365 Advantage Safety Star Program] because of my passion and for the workers. I know how important it is for the company to also make sure that safety is with them everyday. That’s the reason I did it,” said Eddie Lopez when asked about why he decided to participate in the program.

On March 5, 2018, members of the Francis Parker School maintenance department led by Mike Cain gathered for a training with Collin Dawson, a personal trainer Rancho Mesa Insurance Services, Inc. partnered with to develop the Mobility & Stretch Program.

In an effort to prevent on the job injuries, the training participants learned how to properly stretch and strengthen their muscles before they begin their workday. The program uses the maintenance truck, a partner or other available apparatus to help employees achieve total body activation. The Mobility & Stretch Program takes 10-15 minutes to stretch and strengthen the key muscles that surround common industry injuries.
"All of this centers on warming up large muscle groups through mobility and using proper stretching techniques to minimize the risk of strains and lifting claims," said Daniel Frazee, Executive Vice President at Rancho Mesa Insurance Services, Inc. "I really appreciate how the school remains forward thinking and proactive with Safety!"

NALP, in Partnership with Rancho Mesa Insurance Services, Launch "Share Your Safety Stories" Campaign

The National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) in partnership with Rancho Mesa Insurance Services announced its "Share Your Safety Stories" campaign, in early January 2018.

The National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) in partnership with Rancho Mesa Insurance Services announced its "Share Your Safety Stories" campaign, in early January 2018.
The campaign was designed to share creative ways companies incorporate safety within their cultural. Submissions can include fitness challenges, stretching routines, or other creative ways companies reinforce a safety cultural.
How to Participate
- Write a story, film a short video around 1:30 minutes or take a photo of the creative way you incorporate safety into the workplace.
Example: Rancho Mesa's Drew Garcia made a video that highlights Rancho Mesa's 7th Inning Stretch, walking program.
- Submit your entry by email to marketing@landscapeprofessionals.org or post to social media on your own outlets using #NALPSafe or post to the NALP Facebook page. Don’t forget to tag your post – #NALPSafe.
Submissions will be accepted until February 28, 2018.
The best and most innovative #NALPSafe safety stories will be shared with the NALP membership throughout the year. The winner of the campaign will receive an Apple Watch.
Rancho Mesa Hosts Heat Illness Prevention Workshop

In an effort to improve their companies' safety programs, nearly 20 different companies sent representatives to learn how to protect their employees at Rancho Mesa's Heat Illness Prevention Workshop on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at San Diego Christian College in Santee, CA.

In an effort to improve their companies' safety programs, nearly 20 different companies sent representatives to learn how to protect their employees at Rancho Mesa's Heat Illness Prevention Workshop on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at San Diego Christian College in Santee, CA.
Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies' Zadock "Zee" Reid, Senior Loss Control Specialist, conducted the interactive and engaging workshop. His presentation incorporated PowerPoint slides, a demonstration of an OSHA mobile device application, and a conversational style that allowed the participants to discuss real-world issues.
The audience appreciated Zee's professional yet easy-to-follow style. The "speaker from BHHC was very polished and professional," wrote John Coker from The Land Stewards. "Very well done, great presentation," wrote Steve Boyce from Accel Framing, Inc.
Following the workshop, Rancho Mesa clients were sent various resources to assist them with their Heat Illness Prevention strategies. They included:
